HAGLEY GC’S PROCESS FOR SUBMITTING GENERAL PLAY CARDS
- Members must pre-register their intent to submit a general play card using the England Golf App and submit their score promptly on completion of their round via the app. The score must be attested by a marker who must be able to comply with the specified responsibilities under the Rules of Golf 2023 Rule 3.3b and must have witnessed the round.
2. It is the player’s responsibility to submit their score and ensure their marker attests their score the same day so that any handicap adjustment can be automatically updated at midnight that night otherwise players may be playing off the wrong handicap in the days that follow. In addition, a correctly completed paper score card (Rules of Golf 2023 Rule 3.3b) must accompany the electronic score return. This card should be placed in the scorecard box in the locker room upon completing your round, otherwise the score may be deleted or converted to a non-qualifying score.
3. Where members record a general play score on the England Golf App at an away course, a completed scorecard is still to be submitted in the scorecard box in the locker room as soon as possible. If not received within 7 days the score maybe deleted or converted to a non-qualifying score.
4. The paper scorecards referred to under points 3 & 4 above should show the date and time of the round, tees used, player’s name and course handicap as well as the marker’s name, signature and – if not Hagley GC- their home club and WHS number.
5. Members are not allowed to submit a general play score by recording their own score whilst playing in a 4 ball, pairs, 3 or 4 man team or any other team format golf. Any such scores will be deleted.
6. When submitting General Play scores, players must ensure that they do not breach Rule 5.2 (Practice) of the Rules of Golf. As an example, submitting a General Play Score before playing a competition round (on the same Course/Tee) would fall foul of Rule 5.2 .
7. Members are not allowed to play a 9 hole competition (e.g. Clark Trophies) and then submit a general play score for the other 9 holes played as part of the same round. The reason being the general play card should be submitted before the competition is processed at midnight and therefore any general play handicap adjustment may affect the player’s competition score.
8. Where players pre-register their intent to submit either a 9 or 18 whole general play score it is their responsibility under the rule of handicapping to return the best possible score for every hole played. The computer will allocate a score on any hole where the player does not hole out.
9. Where either the designated number of holes are not completed, or where the player subsequently cancels their score intent without valid reason the handicap committee will investigate why, and a penalty score will be applied to the player’s record. A player who repeatedly does this will be subject to an additional penalty score and possible disciplinary action which could result in their handicap index being adjusted, frozen or suspended.
10. A player who fails to submit an attested score on the EG app upon completion of their round, and/or fails to return a paper scorecard as required under 2, 3 & 4 above, may have a penalty score applied to their record. A player who repeatedly does this may have their handicap adjusted, frozen or suspended.
11. General play scores from outside of GB&I must be returned using paper scorecards and placed in the scorecard box within 3 weeks of the round being played. Scorecards should be countersigned by an official of the course being played (professional/manager) and marked/signed by a golfer who holds a WHS handicap index. Players must provide the following information: date of round, country, venue, tees used, your WHS number, course rating, slope rating, par, name and local ID number of the marker.
