Club Captain’s Welcome

Club Captain Richard Mason
Club Captain Richard Mason

It is my pleasure to welcome all our members and visitors old and new to 2023 and hope you all fulfil your golfing ambitions this coming season. It could be your year.

It is with great pride and honour that I go forward in representing you as Club Captain. I will do my very best to repay the trust bestowed on me by the outgoing Captain Steve Wood and the Past Captains when they elected me to the position.

My sincere thanks goes Steve and all the committee members past and present for all the hard work they have put in during their tenures. Being on any Committee is sometimes a thankless task, but when we get it right it is very rewarding, and I believe we have got it right more often than wrong this year and the Club is in a great place going forward.

Most of you that know me will know that although I hold the old values of a Members Golf Club, and I am quite a stickler where dress codes and behaviour is concerned, I am also open to new ideas and my promise to you is that I will listen. I can’t always guarantee you will get the answer you want, but I will listen.

I would like to extend my welcome, and thanks, to our 2 new Captains, Debbie LeQuesne the incoming Lady Captain and Kevin Johnstone who is taking up the Seniors’ Captain position. I look forward to working with them, and their Committees, to build on the foundations put in place last year for the Club to become more inclusive of all our sections, and move towards the “ONE CLUB” ethos everyone talks about. One group of members is no more important than another, even if we think we are. You are all members of this great Club and I represent all of you.

One way we have become closer together is the return to the Club Charity, with all sections fundraising for a single cause. This year it is Halas Homes, a local organisation supporting local people with learning difficulties, by providing Residential and Respite Care, Supported Living and Day Activities. If we work together and support each other then I am sure we can do something to make a big difference to someone’s life.

I will sign off by wishing you every happiness for the coming year on and off the golf course, and I look forward to seeing you out there.
