Course update

Stormy weather doesn’t stop maintenance and development progress this week…

Aeration with Procore

The wet and windy weather last week would have normally prevented essential aeration work on the greens and tees. Thanks to the pedestrian Toro Procore used by the greens team this work carried on regardless and has been very successful. So much so that we have arranged to repeat the process again in March and April this pre-season with a view to starting earlier in the off season later this year come October/November.

Hand mowing and hedge trimming

As well as aeration other maintenance tasks have carried on thanks to the use of our hand mowers. Another important job completed this week was the trimming of larger greenery such as the conifers around the practice putting green and the laurel hedge beside 10th fairway. All this work around the periphery of the course plays an important part in keeping the course as a whole as tidy and well presented as possible.

Development work around 13th, 17th & 18th

The team continue to work on the course’s long term development as well as day to day maintenance.

The path that adjoins that which runs beyond the 13th green and on up to the 17th tee has been completed ready for astro to be laid(as pictured in the gallery below). This will serve as an important route on and off the back 9 for golfers and greenkeepers alike. Having worked at pace through this area the team have now begun to reshape the route from the 17th green to the 18th tee. As you can see in the picture gallery the old bridge and brook have been cleared and will no longer be in use. Instead the route created closer to the rear of the 6th tee is being made good and permanent. This will be achieved by installing a row of sleepers to create a defined edge to the new path. The path will sweep round to meet the existing path to the 18th tee. The groundworks phase is expected to be completed by the end of next week. During the second phase of the development the existing path to the 18th tee will be widened, levelled and prepared for laying with astro along with the brand new section built in phase one. The expectation is for both phases to be completed for the last week in February, weather permitting.

Another course update will be sent later this week describing progress on the above as well more essential greens maintenance work.
