Course Update
Following more positive feedback from last weekend’s Am-Am the greens team have been working hard on both maintenance and development over the last couple of weeks. Important maintenance tasks include ‘Earthquaking’ of fairways and other areas of high volume traffic. As pictured the ‘Earthquake’ machine attaches to our tractor and is very slowly is pulled along as the rotating blades it contains slice through the top 4-6″ of topsoil. This helps to de-compact areas allowing water that might otherwise remain on the top surface and affect play to run through fissures left by ‘Earthquaking’ and into the drainage system
Development work has included construction of the new path from the 12th green to where the winter tee on 13th will be placed. This is the final piece in the 15 hole loop we intend to keep available for all golfers, including those who require buggies for as often as we can through winter. We will also be roping off sections the buggy route on holes 10-13 to make it as simple as possible to follow correctly and safely.
As conditions are OK and materials are also close by the greens team will be moving across to the 12th tee from next week for more redevelopment. Specifically a brand new, framed winter mat will be installed. Also, as it has worked so well by the practice putting green, a root barrier will be placed around the tree by the tee to encourage the surface to allow grass to grow again.
Finally you will notice that some temporary greens have been marked out in readiness for the winter months. We are all hoping that play can remain on the main greens as often as possible but it is sensible to prepare just in case. Please take a free drop from these areas that are clearly marked by a blue circle.
A more detailed winter course update will be sent by the Greens Committee in the next few days.
