Course Update

As much as we have enjoyed good golfing conditions throughout much of the golfing season, as seems typical of our autumn weather, the rains come and we have to make adjustments to access on the course.  This is not something that we do lightly and we give primary consideration to the safety of our members, visitors as well as planning for the condition of the course itself.  As you can see from the gallery below, we have already had instances of some not following the 90 degree rule and creating potential hazards as well as impacting the condition of the course.  We are already seeing other golf courses in the area have buggy bans in place, Hagley GC are hoping that we will not be doing this throughout the winter (course conditions providing) and that while following our daily course assessments, our members will still be able to play the course, albeit, having to make some allowances due to course conditions.

The changing ground conditions make it more likely that you will take divots during your round. Please take the time to try and repair these as you play. The cooler wetter weather means the course takes longer to recover from play and anything we can do to help maintain it through the winter months will pay dividends when the season starts again next year. To this end the Greens Committee recommend you consider using the SPURK striking mat as described in the attached link. These are available in the pro shop for just £20 https://spurkgolf.co.uk/
As part of the usual winter course set up the green keepers are roping off some areas and installing winter tee mats. The winter tee mats may be in use again soon and it is very important you please follow the routes created by the roping off of certain areas. If you can use a carry bag, even with just 6 or so clubs, it would make it much easier to get round the course. Finally if you can please use winter wheels on an electric trolley please use them from now on. In the gallery above you can see the ropes on the brow of the 18th fairway and work that has been carried out installing the new winter mat on the 10th tee. In the gallery below are pictures of the new astro paths being laid across the road in front of the 4th green. This new material is being trialled in this and a few other areas and if successful will be used on other paths as this work continues over the next few months.
Even though the days are getting shorter and the weather is sometimes against them the greens staff remain dedicated to preparing the course to the highest possible standard come what may. Every morning the team work hard and as the pictures below show that sometimes means even hand mowing the greens in the dark!
