Course Update
This week there is just a brief update to confirm that all major pre-season work has now been completed. Thank you for your patience and ensuring the greens staff had the time they needed on the course to complete the work.
Over the past few weeks most of the work has been focused on the putting surfaces. Much of this has been detailed in previous Course Update but as an overview and as pictured in the gallery below this has included:
Aeration – solid tining and slitting
Scarification – the most intensive of the processes but the most effective at removing thatch (organic matter such as mosses)
Over seeding – pure bent grass seed is now embedded in the putting greens and growing well

Top dressing – fine sand is regularly spread across the surfaces to fill the aeration holes and help maintain the strength of the top surface
Fertilising – a combination of substances is applied to the putting surfaces to help the pure bent grasses grow as they take root
Rolling/ironing – this process helps to keep the surface rolling true whilst the materials and seed is relatively unaffected
Irrigation – although we had some very cold nights through April the irrigation system has been operating regularly over night since then
All of the above and continued regular maintenance means the greens are set to be in great condition for the season ahead. The mowing height will be reduced this weekend from 5mm to less than 4mm so they should be a bit quicker too!
