Course update

As we approach the end of the season the maintenance work around the course has kept pace with the changing conditions. The recent rain has been welcome and with the team working to take advantage of this the definition of the course is looking as good as it has all year.

As well as the maintenance work more tree surgery has been carried out these past couple of weeks. Small areas around tees have been tidied up and a large area has been cleared around the 12th green. This work will allow more light and air around the back of the green and hopefully promote more growth. More tree clearance is planned for later this month. This will be described in more detail in the next course update.

The aeration, top dressing and over seeding of the putting surfaces went to plan at the end of August and the greens are now coming back to form. As ever it will be to the benefit of every golfer playing the course if players take care to maintain the putting surfaces. This means please repairing pitch marks, even if it isn’t your own. PLEASE refrain from expressing frustration at missed putts by damaging the surface with your putter. Any golfer witnessed doing this will be asked to explain their actions to the Committee.

Some of you may have noticed the material that has recently been placed beside the 17th green. This is for the extension of the paths on the back 9 which will begin in the next couple of weeks. Starting at the furthest end of the course, the 12th hole, the work will continue through the autumn. The first phase will see the base layer for the paths laid initially. This will be followed be the laying of astroturf in the second phase. Importantly, buggies will be able to use the paths as soon as the first phase is complete.
