Course Update

Thanks to a return to  better weather course maintenance has picked up pace and ground conditions have enabled the large mowers to be used. Definition is now apparent and improving with each day’s work. Tees are also now being prepared for the season ahead. They are back on the mowing rota and will be fertilised in the next few days. The white tee competitions will be moved to the grass tees, using brand new point of play markers, from this weekend 14th The yellow and red tees will hopefully be placed on grass from April. Greens maintenance has been excellent so far with the grass being strong enough for a much lower height of cut last week. This should have meant a faster and truer roll this weekend. A combination of hand mowing, ride on mowing and rolling has been used to keep the greens true. ‘Earthquaking’ has been done on the greens for aeration and decompaction over the last few days. Meanwhile the removal of the branches from low level clearance continues.

Development work has been possible thanks to access to areas provided by paths across the course. The work on the steps to the 10th yellow tee was extended to incorporate the paths that now run from the paving beyond the yellow tee itself. This work included additional drainage which will hopefully prevent the wash away that sometimes occurs further down the path. A small section of the paving on the slope that leads from the Club House to the 10th was replaced with astro as a trial. So far it is working well so it is likely the sloped paving will be replaced by astro entirely in time. The astro has also been utilised affectively on the area around the 3rd winter tee. When conditions allowed last week, the team moved on to the RHS bunker on 11th. This work is now in progress with the drainage in and around the bunker renovated. The work will continue over the next few days.

We will provide you an update ahead of the planned course maintenance week which will include more work on the putting greens in particular. Have a good week.
