Course Update

As promised in the last Course Update please see below a review of this week’s successful course work, focused on the putting greens.

Tuesday – contractors and the greens team worked together scarifying, blowing and verti-cutting the greens.

As you can see from the pictures above there was a significant amount of material removed from the surfaces. The picture of the trailer shows thatch removed from just 3 greens.

Wednesday/Thursday – top dressing of the greens with fine sand to infill the areas where material was removed. Each green had approximately.0.5 ton spread across it. This was followed by aeration, pictured below with tining to ensure the root zone of the putting green oxygenates properly.

Thursday/Friday – following the traffic from machinery on Tuesday and Wednesday the greens were rolled with the Toro greens iron and ‘vibro’ greens rollers to smooth the surface e out.

The plan for Saturday and Sunday is to roll the greens first thing.  Over the next few weeks the greens will be fertilised and the over seeding will be completed. These processes will be described in a further Course Update at the time.

Work on the 11th bunker itself is now nearly complete. The area short of the bunker will be shaped and turf laid when ground temperatures increase. It is only when ground temperatures remain consistently above 6-8 Celsius that the turf will take root.

Finally, a date for the next phase of the primary drainage works has been agreed. The images below show the areas where the majority of materials will be removed. The hazard on the right of the 4th and 8th holes will be largely cleared. This will result in the appearance of the 4th hole changing. There will also be some clearance on the left side of the 4th too. This is a continuation of our ongoing drainage project. This also includes mole ploughing on areas of the course in the next few weeks.

The work on the 4th and 8th holes is due to be completed 5-8th May. During this time the 4th and 8th holes will play from forward tees. There will be signage and barriers to guide you. It will be much appreciated if the contractors can be left to carry out their work safely and uninterrupted. More detail on the work will be shared in next week’s Course Update.
