Frozen Course Update – Friday 16th December

With the freezing conditions set to change later in the weekend than originally forecast moving to 18 temporary greens will be delayed until Monday. The reason for this is that as the ground remains frozen it will not damage the course. This will hopefully give 7 day members brave enough to play in the cold a chance to enjoy more of the course.

When it defrosts from later on Sunday ‘Root Shear’ could take place. Whilst the ground is frozen solid this isn’t a concern but once defrosting occurs it is a particular risk to the greens. Please see the link to a USGA video that explains this very clearly. Root Shear on the Golf Course (usga.org)

Greenkeepers will monitor the frost levels in the ground and replace holes onto main greens when they determine there is no chance of ‘Root Shear’.
