Removal of Placing Closely Mown
With the continuing good weather the course has now dried out, and balls are no longer picking up mud from the fairways.
Accordingly, it has been agreed that with effect from tomorrow, 10th May 2025, we will no longer be using the placing closely mown ruling. With the exception of the local rule referred to below, all balls in the general area of the course must now be played as they lie.
Notwithstanding the above, we are aware that due to the dry weather the slits from the recently completed mole-ploughing remain, and the following local rule has been approved to cover the scenario if the ball comes to rest in one of these slits.
TEMPORARY LOCAL RULE – MOLE PLOUGHING SLITS (Model local rule E-4)
If, as a result of the recent mole ploughing, a player’s ball lies on or touches a mole ploughing slit in the general areas of the course, or if a slit is likely to impact on the players attempt to strike the ball, then the player may take relief under Rule 16.1b. (A free drop from knee height within 1 club length of the original ball position, not nearer the hole.)
A player is not entitled to relief if the slit interferes with his stance or line of intended swing.
Enjoy your golf
